Plumber

WHY THE JOB EXISTS
This position performs minor to complex maintenance and service as needed to support ongoing facility operations that are initiated through work requests as dispatched by the CMMS, and/or a member of the management in accordance with Research / Healthcare standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Perform various work functions and effective preventive maintenance procedures on heating, water, and drainage systems
  • Unclog drains, commodes, sinks and traps.
  • Operate and maintain water collection, supply systems and wastewater systems.
  • Repair, maintain or replace washers, valves, pumps, leaking faucets, fixtures and interior/exterior water/sewer lines and mains.
  • Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Maintain heating and domestic hot water boilers.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and shop sketches
  • Maintain backflow preventers
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience in Research and Hospital environment is a plus.
  • Know principles of operation and construction features of backflow prevention devices.
  • Be familiar and able to use specialized equipment such as sewer snakes, sewer cameras, pro-press tools, and oxy-acetylene torch.
  • Ability to work independently and manage client requests.
  • Ability to adapt and perform other maintenance/repair task as assigned and needed.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing codes and OSHA safety standards.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques to include use of handheld computing devices.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Take the initiative to identify and report deficiencies in the physical plant of the Research/Hospital facility by submitting work orders through the CMMS.
  • Assist with other trades and duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Specific Requirements and Preferences
  • Trade or Tech School in Plumbing
Minimum Work Experience
  • 5 years Commercial Plumbing experience
  • 4 years- Related general Plumbing experience
Licenses and Certification
  • Licensed Journeyman Plumber
  • Backflow Certification Preferred
  • Valid driver’s license to operate motor vehicles
Physical, Environment, and Sensory Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb ladder, stand for long period of time and constant arm extensions.
