Why the job exists
The primary objective of this position is to provide Real Property Installed Equipment (RPIE) support services on government contracts.  As opportunities increase we are seeking individuals for part-time positions who can function as a RPIE Technician for collection of facility asset inventory data in Microsoft Excel at medical and medical support facilities.  Experience with the use of computers and Microsoft products it essential.  There will be an opportunity to learn to populate data in the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support-Facility Maintenance (DMLSS-FM) system. The survey includes locating Real Property, collecting manufacturer specifications in Microsoft Excel, and producing/applying survey labels. Experience at a Hospital or large Commercial buildings is a plus. A minimum of one year experience with RPIE support services is preferred, but experience with maintenance of building systems or DMLSS knowledge are also acceptable skills.  The hourly wage will be $18.00 - $20.00 based on experience.

 VWI is looking for a candidate who is willing to work on a part-time, as-needed basis, which is expected to be three to four weeks on and one week off for at least the next year. The candidate must be willing to travel to military bases throughout the United States. Travel will be for several weeks at a time.


PRIMARY DUTIES
The work requires collection of medical facility real property data (building system equipment) and creation of database inventories of facilities, rooms, and Facility System Inventory (FSI)/RPIE.  The types of assets collected and entered into the electronic database include Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing, Communications, Fire & Alarm, Electrical, Emergency Power equipment, and other infrastructure items in typical medical and medical support facilities.
 
As a RPIE Technician you will work in two-man teams or work independently to capture information in an Excel based spreadsheet and learn to locate, identify, print and apply barcode labels and possibly assist support staff loading gathered data into DMLSS-FM.  Tasks require work in mechanical rooms, equipment closets, interstitial spaces, basements, and roofs, as well as sensitive environments such as patient care areas.  This physically challenging position varies between extensive walking, bending, stretching, and occasional ladder work, to extended sitting behind a computer populating the database.  Safety is our top priority followed closely by attention to detail, accuracy and speed during the inventory process. The Technicians will provide input to monthly status briefings, and draft monthly update reports. Candidates MUST BE WILLING TO TRAVEL up to several weeks at a time to Military Bases all over the Country.


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
 
Minimum Qualifications:  
·      Experience with RPIE surveys (one year experience with RPIE inventories desirable)
·      Proficient in MS Excel, Word and Outlook
·      Eligible for a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) clearance for a CAC card
·      Experience on commercial facility mechanical and building systems (O & M Support Experience)
·      Focused attention to detail
·      Self-starter, able to work independently
·      Strong ability to prioritize and multitask
·      Work well in collaboration with others
·      Excellent verbal communication skills
·      Ability to build strong relationships with customers
·      Candidates possessing supervisory, or team lead experience is a plus
·      Experience with DMLSS-FM is desirable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Work is performed primarily while standing and/or walking 8-hours a day.
  • Some areas of the facility and interstitial spaces may be physically demanding to access equipment.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds
  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.
