Why the job exists
The primary objective of this position is to provide part-time electrical maintenance technician skills in support of real property installed equipment surveys for hospitals, medical treatment facilities and medically related support facilities.  The survey includes locating all electrical high volt and low volt equipment, identifying the equipment, collecting manufacturer specifications in Microsoft Excel, and producing / applying survey labels. The Technician must have Hospital or Large Commercial Building experience. The hourly wage will be $18.00 - $21.00 based on experience.
 VWI is looking for a candidate who is willing to work on a part-time, as-needed basis, which is expected to be three to four weeks on and one week off for at least the next year. The candidate must be willing to travel to military bases throughout the United States. Travel will be for several weeks at a time.

  • From personal knowledge and experience be able to locate and identify electrical equipment such as; power panels, switchboards, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, motor control centers, lighting, grounding, GFCI receptacles, generators, etc.  
  • Enter equipment inventoried into an Excel database.
  • Be able to evaluate the general condition of the equipment (new, good fair, poor).
  • Print labels using a Brothers printer.
  • Work in teams of two.
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications.
  • Respect patient privacy.
  • Standard practices of the electrical technician trade.
  • Applicable building codes, ordinances and regulations of State and local authorities pertaining to electrical equipment.
  • Working knowledge, familiarity or background in Excel, Word, and Office is desirable.
  • Experience on an operation and maintenance team is preferred.
  • Observant of health and safety regulations.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Meet schedules and time lines.
  • Willingness to be flexible to the ever-changing client military medical environment.
  • Able to accomplish and maintain all contractual training proficiencies; E.g. HIPPA, OSHA, etc.
  • Experience with general equipment and facilities maintenance.
  • A clean driving record.
  • Work is performed primarily while standing and/or walking 8-hours a day.
  • Some areas of the facility and interstitial spaces may be physically demanding to access equipment.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds
  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate and two years of documentable HVAC operation, maintenance and repair experience in the electrical trade.
  • If no High school diploma, three years of electrical operation maintenance and repair experience may be substituted
