WHY THE JOB EXISTS
 
The primary objective of this position is to provide part-time general operation and maintenance technician skills in support of real property surveys for hospitals, medical treatment facilities and medically related support facilities.  The survey includes locating all facility real property other than mechanical or electrical equipment, identifying the equipment, collecting manufacturer specifications in Microsoft Excel, and producing / applying survey labels. 

VWI is looking for a candidate who is willing to work on a part-time, as-needed basis. The candidate will have periods of time when no work is needed. The candidate must be willing to travel to military bases throughout the United States. Travel may be for several weeks at a time.

PRIMARY DUTIES
 
Work involved a variety of the following duties:
  • A general knowledge of equipment such as: security, fire alarm, fire protection, food service, nurse call, conveying systems, rated doors, and plumbing fixtures is required.
  • Enter equipment inventoried into an Excel database.
  • Be able to evaluate the general condition of the equipment (new, good fair, poor).
  • Print labels using a Brothers printer.
  • Work in teams of two.
  • Respect patient privacy.
 
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Standard practices of a general maintenance technician to survey real property.
  • Applicable building codes, ordinances and regulations of State and local authorities pertaining to HVAC, refrigeration and boilers.
  • Experience on an operation and maintenance team is preferred.
  • Observant of health and safety regulations.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Meet schedules and time lines.
  • Willingness to be flexible to the ever-changing client military medical environment.
  • Able to accomplish and maintain all contractual training proficiencies; E.g. HIPPA, OSHA, etc.
  • Experience with general equipment and facilities maintenance.
  • A clean driving record.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
 
  • Work is performed primarily while standing and/or walking 8-hours a day.
  • Some areas of the facility and interstitial spaces may be physically demanding to access equipment.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds
  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate and two years of documentable HVAC operation, maintenance and repair experience in the HVAC trade.
  • If no High school diploma, three years of HVAC operation maintenance and repair experience may be substituted
