Position Summary
V W International is seeking a qualified Data Center Facilities Technician to support the daily operation, maintenance and monitoring of mission-critical electrical, mechanical and environmental infrastructure within a federal data center environment.
The Facilities Technician will conduct equipment inspections, monitor critical systems, coordinate preventive maintenance, respond to service calls, support DCIM operations, manage maintenance documentation and assist with infrastructure troubleshooting and improvement projects.
This position requires broad hands-on knowledge of critical power, cooling, environmental monitoring and data center facilities operations.
Key Responsibilities
· Monitor and maintain mission-critical data center infrastructure and environmental conditions.
· Perform daily facility rounds, inspections, audits, equipment checks and operational reviews.
· Monitor electrical, mechanical, HVAC, cooling, humidity, leak-detection and power-distribution systems.
· Coordinate and oversee scheduled preventive maintenance performed by employees, manufacturers, service providers and subcontractors.
· Perform preventive-maintenance and quality-control inspections.
· Respond to service calls, alarms, equipment issues and infrastructure incidents.
· Assist with the operation, configuration and maintenance of DCIM and environmental-monitoring systems.
· Establish or troubleshoot connectivity to environmental and facilities hardware.
· Support DCIM configuration changes, updates, security patches and issue resolution.
· Develop and maintain operational procedures, Methods of Procedure, checklists, maintenance schedules and work records.
· Collect and maintain field-service reports and preventive-maintenance documentation.
· Coordinate generator testing and other scheduled maintenance with building and customer personnel.
· Provide advance customer notification for scheduled maintenance activities.
· Maintain inventory of parts, tools, materials and supplies.
· Review equipment plans and manuals to forecast maintenance requirements.
· Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, materials and site access.
· Prepare service work orders and documentation supporting invoicing, vendor payment and payroll.
· Support equipment installation, configuration, adds, moves and changes.
· Maintain safe, secure, sanitary and efficient data center conditions.
· Participate in shift coverage, after-hours maintenance and on-call response as required.
The SOW assigns this position responsibility for critical-system monitoring, PM oversight, DCIM support, service calls, quality inspections, MOPs, generator testing and maintenance documentation.
Required Qualifications
· At least five years of professional experience in environmental data center monitoring.
· At least five years of professional experience managing or maintaining complex data center facilities.
· At least three years of professional experience in a multi-platform enterprise networking environment.
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information systems, engineering, business, facilities management or a related discipline.
Equivalent directly relevant professional experience may be considered in place of the degree.
· Expert knowledge of data center electrical infrastructure, including power distribution, UPS systems, PDUs, transfer equipment, circuit breakers and related equipment.
· Expert knowledge of CRAC/CRAH systems, HVAC, cooling, humidity control, leak detection and other environmental infrastructure.
· Functional knowledge of DCIM or facilities-management monitoring software.
· Experience performing or overseeing preventive maintenance in a mission-critical environment.
· Ability to interpret technical manuals, equipment documentation, drawings and maintenance procedures.
· Strong troubleshooting, documentation and customer-service skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated technical team.
· Ability to qualify for federal facility access and meet applicable background-investigation requirements.
The minimum experience requirements are established in SOW Section 10.3.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with rotary and static UPS systems.
· Experience with generators, switchgear, PDUs, power-distribution modules and automatic transfer switches.
· Experience with Liebert, Vertiv, Schneider Electric, APC or similar mission-critical equipment.
· Experience supporting federal, healthcare, scientific, research or high-performance-computing environments.
· Data center operations, electrical, HVAC, safety or DCIM certifications.
· Familiarity with AFCOM or comparable industry practices.
