What You’ll Do Under the responsibility of the VA Supervisory Interior Designer, the Medical Equipment Planner shall develop deadlines, overall objectives, resources available and tasks necessary to complete the work. The Medical Equipment Planner shall be responsible for independently planning and carrying out the assigned tasks to meet the objectives of the Interior Design Section activation responsibilities, including overseeing and assisting with major projects activations, equipment planning, specifying, budgeting, preparing solicitation packages for equipment purchases, management of delivery and installation. The completed work shall be reviewed by the Supervisory Interior Designer in terms of effectiveness in meeting all requirements.
Independently create and execute appropriate equipment planning services for varied spaces including conference rooms, patient care rooms, patient treatment rooms, waiting rooms, entry lobbies, break rooms, cafe, break rooms, support rooms including clean and soiled utility rooms, medication rooms, storage and stockroom. throughout all the major construction projects.
Perform technical, administrative or professional work involving managing, administering, operating or supporting services and programs related to the operation and safety of Federal facilities.
Analyze architectural drawings, equipment schedules, electrical and data plans and identifying overlaps and gaps between the proposed equipment and the designed space.
Perform existing equipment inventory audits, conduct value cost analysis and comparative equipment studies of existing inventory and provide a reuse analysis report making recommendations based on the VA guidelines for reuse.
Integrate medical equipment and the associated infrastructure technology, including the exchange of information between disparate systems such as audiovisual, security, and acoustics, and information technology infrastructure and information technology systems.
Coordinate, plan, document and schedule moving existing equipment in conjunction with the procurement and installation of new equipment.
Administer and oversee medical equipment planning, including budgets, standards and specifications for all VALBHS major construction projects.
Review the information created by the preplanning Contractor and the activation Contractor to ensure information provided is complete, accurate, coordinated with the architectural drawings, and installation plan. Full technical responsibility shall be mandated in achieving functional and accurate production work for major equipment acquisition and activation.
Conversant with procedures, practices and nomenclature of related professional fields required to effectively coordinate and consult with representatives of such fields as electrical, low voltage, architecture, mechanical and structural engineering.
Provide technical expertise to coworkers and coordinate with engineers, architects, and other designers to ensure compliance with VA regulations and facility design criteria. Act as a technical representative for equipment specification matters and ensure the facility standards are met.
Maintain functional knowledge of relevant safety codes and standards of regulatory bodies including The Joint Commission (TJC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation {AAMI).
Interpret and review provided architectural plans for concurrence to the VA's Technical information Library (TIL), standards and equipment specifications as used for the basis of current construction.
Produce procurement packages.
Maintain and track procurement packages. This includes financial management related to the procurement of equipment and accessory items, communicating with the awarded vendor & activations team regarding the status of each package, coordinating delivery & installation schedules.
Create and maintain collateral; SOW, specification writing, Independent Government Estimates (IGCE), schedules, financial control log, scaled drawings and market research related to procurement package creation, maintenance & tracking using Microsoft Office Suite.
Maintain the digital resource library that includes drawings, plans, specification procurement documents, project correspondence, and project binders relating to major project equipment planning.
Provide training and education as appropriate to medical technology end users and clinical staff as part of the move-in and coordinate with VA Biomedical Department and Logistics to ensure products are documented into the Equipment Information Library, tagged for use by the electrical department and properly documented for future equipment inventory.
What You’ll Have Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree.
8-10 years of medical equipment planning experience in a healthcare/hospital construction environment.
Maintains knowledge of the state of the art in medical technology, including scientific
advances, network protocols, and vendor changes.
Must have the ability to write equipment specifications and statement of work for
procurement of medical equipment.
Must have the ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications.
Proficiency in creating and maintaining collateral; maintenance & tracking using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook).
AutoCAD and MS Project are preferred but not required.
Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with a variety of contractors, management officials, vendors, Contracting Officers and Long Beach staff.
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
Qualified candidates shall have received an annual seasonal influenza vaccination, or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons, prior to start of work.
